You’ve spent weeks or months on the edit. The way the film reaches the couple decides whether it feels like a premiere or like a file transfer. And it’s the moment they’re most likely to share your work with family, friends and future clients.
The ways to deliver a wedding film
Most videographers use one or a mix of these:
- A download link (Dropbox, Google Drive or a transfer service). Simple, and couples get full-quality files. But it feels technical, links expire, and big files are hard to watch on a phone.
- A video platform link (like Vimeo or YouTube, often unlisted or password protected). Easy to watch and share. It looks like the platform rather than like your brand, and keeping downloads available usually takes extra setup.
- A USB drive or keepsake box. A lovely physical touch, especially as an add-on. Fewer computers have USB ports, and couples still want something they can watch and share online.
- An online gallery in your branding. One link with every film, streaming on any device, with downloads when they want them. It’s the closest thing to a premiere, and it keeps your name on every share.
Many studios combine them: an online gallery for watching and sharing, with downloads (or a keepsake) for safekeeping.
What couples expect
- It plays on their phone. They’ll watch it first on a phone and send it to family the same day.
- One place for everything. Highlight film, full ceremony, speeches, teaser: together, not five separate links.
- Easy to share. A link they can text to their parents that just works.
- Something to keep. A clear way to download their films, and how long they have to do it.
- Clear timing. The turnaround you promised in your contract, and an update if anything changes.
A wedding film delivery checklist
- Watch every film start to finish on a phone and a computer. Check audio levels, music and spelling in any titles.
- Export a high-quality master and a streaming version. The master is for downloads; the streaming version plays smoothly everywhere.
- Name files clearly, for example “Ava-and-Theo-Highlight-Film.mp4”, so they make sense in a downloads folder years from now.
- Put everything in one place, with the highlight film first.
- Choose a cover image from the film. It’s what they’ll see first and what shows up when they share.
- Decide on privacy: public link, password, or invite-only.
- Back up the final files in at least two places before you send.
- Check any final payment is settled, if your contract says delivery follows payment.
- Send one delivery email with one clear button.
- Follow up a few days later to make sure everything plays and downloads.

Subject: Your wedding film is here 🎬
Hi Ava and Theo,
It’s finally here. Your wedding film is ready to watch.
Find a quiet moment, turn the sound up and press play. Everything is in one place: your highlight film first, then the full ceremony and speeches.
[Watch your film]
You can download every film from the same page. Please save copies somewhere safe in the next 90 days.
It was an honor to be part of your day.
[Your name]
Keep it short. The film is the message. If you offer a download window, say it plainly.
After delivery
- Ask for a review a week or two later, once they’ve shared it and the reactions are fresh.
- Ask permission to share the film on your website and socials, if your contract doesn’t already cover it.
- Archive the project so your active list only shows couples who still need something.
Upload the films, pick a layout and your look, and publish. Couples get one premiere-style email with one button, and the gallery streams in HD on any phone, with albums, downloads and an optional password. Edits stay drafts until you publish changes.

Common questions
How long should wedding film delivery take?
Whatever you promise in your contract. Turnaround varies a lot between studios and seasons. What matters most is stating it clearly and updating couples if it changes.
Should I deliver through Vimeo or a gallery?
Either works. A video platform is easy and familiar. A branded gallery keeps your name on every share and puts all their films in one place. Many studios use a gallery for watching and offer downloads for safekeeping.
Should couples be able to download their films?
Most couples expect to keep a copy. Offer downloads, and say how long they’ll be available.
Should I send a teaser before the full film?
Many studios send a short teaser or sneak peek soon after the wedding. It keeps couples excited during the edit and often gets shared widely.
